More on plaintext and lock in Vikas Kamat comments on my plaintext article and notes how this simple format helps documents outlive the email client. As he puts it: "plaintext rules for the same reason the paper rules -- because it is not dependent on anybody for its dissimilation." Well said. Lock-in is the single greatest inhibitor of productivity and innovation for technology providers and consumers alike (very large essay on this soon).
